Politics: Tambuwal takes presidential ambition to Katsina, woos Buhari's kinsmen


- A PDP presidential aspirant, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, has met with the kinsmen of Presidential Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina for support
- Tambuwal called on delegates in the state to rally round him in bringing about a new dawn in the politics of Nigeria
- The governor also met with Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa to consolidate a move for a new leadership in 2019
Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto, who is also a presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to delegates from Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari's state, to vote for him in the forthcoming convention of the party.
Tambuwal who met PDP delegates in Katsina said that the state ‘which has produced some of Nigeria’s most respected elder statesmen, deserve better than what we are seeing today’, Daily Trust reports.
Tambuwal, in a statement signed by the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Okey Ikechukwu, urged the delegates to join him on a new journey of restoration.
“Within three years, your son and my elder brother, Umaru Yar’Adua was able to show leadership as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
"Today, the situation in our country is a pitiable one. I am calling us all to show responsible citizenship by joining to enthrone a leadership that will inject new policy directions for the nation.”
The aspirant also visited Jigawa where he met the former governor of the state and PDP presidential aspirant, Sule Lamido and other delegates.
He said: “My visit to one of the founding fathers of our great party, Alhaji Sule Lamido is a home coming for me. Yes, I am in my father’s house and the beauty of politics without bitterness is that it makes you focus on the humanity of others.
"It is with this attitude that we can, and must, build a new Nigeria. The time to start doing that is now.”
In his address to delegates, Tambuwal urged them to join him in electing a new leadership to save Nigeria and create a new dawn.
“We have gotten to the point in our country that we have only two options in 2019 elections, either we move forward or we move backward.
"Since we have resolved not to move backward, I urge you today to join me so that we bring in strategic new leadership, to save the nation and create a new and brighter future for our beloved country. The time to usher in that new leadership with your votes is now.”
Tambuwal had said that he would bring about restructuring in the country's politics and economy through realistic strategies.
Tambuwal said that in order to foster transparency, professionalism, and discipline in the conduct of government business, he will separate the offices of the accountant general and that of the attorney general of the federation, if elected as president in 2019.
