Big Brother Naija’s Bisola wins ONE’S Back to School challenge – Nigerians too can win by joining the #GirlsCount Nigerian media personality Bisola won ONE’s Back to School presentation task as part of the ONE Campaign’s #GirlsCount focusing on girls education. The #GirlsCount Campaign recognises that globally, 130 million girls are out of school and asks citizens of the world to count them, one-by-one, while urging our leaders to act. Woman cuts off neighbour’s finger with razor A 34-year-old woman, Ada Ikart, on Tuesday appeared in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly beating her neighbour, Justina Oke, and used a razor blade to cut her finger. Ikart, a resident of Baba Sule Str. Ajegunle, Apapa in Lagos, is standing trial on a charge of assault. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 24, 2016, at her residence.   Kokoye said that the fight started as a result of an argument which ensued between the accused and the complainant. The prosecutor also said Oke reported the case to the police, adding that the accused was subsequently, arrested and charged to court. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. 25 killed as Philippine bus plunges into ravine Philippine flag     At least 25 people were killed and 22 injured when a passenger bus crashed into a deep ravine in the mountainous northern Philippines on Tuesday, authorities said.  The bus plunged about 24 metres (80 feet) in the upland province of Nueva Ecija before noon after its brakes failed while travelling on a windy road, police and local officials said. “The vehicle is totally wrecked,” said senior inspector Robert De Guzman, police chief of the town of Carranglan where the accident occurred. The impact appeared to have ripped the top off the vehicle, he added.   “Almost all of the passengers, both dead and injured, were found outside the bus.”  Authorities were still investigating the cause of the accident but Carranglan Mayor Mary Abad told ABS-CBN television there were 60 passengers onboard although the bus had a capacity of only 45. Abuja airport reopens Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has reopened after a closure for repairs on the runaway which lasted six weeks. A test flight from Kaduna international airport landed in Abuja on Wednesday morning. Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation, was said to be on board the plane.     Details later…

AFP PHOTO     Judicial and police sources said on Tuesday that two men were arrested in Marseille, southern France, on suspicion of planning an attack during presidential elections which open on April 23. The police source said authorities have been hunting the pair since on Saturday. The source said that they were seized a few minutes apart in the southeastern port city.   The police source said the two men appeared to have turned to radical Islam during a term in prison. Man sells six-year-old girl for N200,000 Imo CP interviewing one of the suspects. Photo: Imo State Police Command A suspected child thief, Chibueze Nwaozuzu, has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command for allegedly stealing a six-year-old girl and selling her for N200,000. The victim, Chinecherem Anoruo, had been declared missing by the parents, who reported the case to the police. In the course of investigation, it was discovered that Nwaozuzu allegedly stole the child and sold her to one Comfort Umunnakwe. The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the command recovered N83,000 from Nwaozuzu, adding that the six-year-old had been reunited with the parents.
