Margaret Ekpo was one of the first female politicians in Nigeria and she made it her life's mission to fight for women in power movement. In an era of male-dominated movements towards indepence, Ekpo was able to play major roles as a politician in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Before she became a pioneer of female politics, she was a women's rights activist and a social mobiliser. Margaret Ekpo was born in 1914, Creek Town in Cross River state. She married a doctor, John Udo Ekpo, who was a civil servant. Margaret Ekpo's determination to educate herself motivated her to obtain a degree in domestic economics at the Rathmine School of Domestic Econimics in Dublin, Ireland, in 1948, The school has been renamed as the Dublin Institute of Technology. The women's rights activist took the opportunity to obtain her degree when she traveled to Dublin with her husband for medical purposes. The Deputy National Chairman of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC, South), Chief Sam Nkire said this in a statement. He stated that appealing to APC would amount to foolhardiness for any member, adding that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole or the APC was not willing to bring about the desired change Nigerians were waiting for. The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Dr Matthew Achigbe, has said that the defection of APC Senators and House of Representatives members will not affect the party’s chances of emerging victorious in 2019. It have been reported that no fewer than 15 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, defected to the PDP. The defectors cited crisis and factions as the reasons for their defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party. Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties. The Presidency on Tuesday disclosed why some Nigerians are opposing President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad on his verified Twitter page, said those fingered in corruption charges, amongst others, were in opposition of the president. He also cited politicians who lost their second term ambition as one of those opposing Buhari. Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has spoken about the police seige on his residence, that almost stopped him from presiding over Tuesday’s plenary session. Saraki’s home was locked down by police officers and his convoy prevented from leaving the premises, to attend to the invitation by the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim. Officials of the Department of State Security Services, (DSS), the Police as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have also laid siege to Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu’s residence.  The Senate President also explained that Ekweremadu could not be present, because “he cannot get out of his house”. The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka stirred controversies online following his recent criticism of the President Buhari-led administration over killings in the country. The fiery priest on Sunday during a sermon at the Adoration ground, Enugu state,  warned President Buhari and members of the federal legislature of impending doom . He advised the President to travel to Rome where he would seek God’s forgiveness for the blood of men of God and innocent men, women and children killed under his watch. Mbaka said there will be disaster if highly and lowly-placed leaders in the country failed to ask God for forgiveness. In response, some Nigerians took to their Twitter handles to express divergent opinions on the prophecy. Four die in open well in Zamfara The entire community of Lungun Attah in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State has been thrown into mourning following the mysterious death of four youth in a well on Saturday. Investigation indicate that one Hajiya Hassi Mai Allura, a widow had ordered her two children, Yahaya, 25, and Iliyasu Mai Allura, 20, to drain the contaminated water in a well through the use of a water pump. The water from the well, which was said to have garlic odor, was to be removed to give way for fresh and clean one, which they intend to be using the water for religious purpose. Little did she know that she was sending her three sons and a family friend to their untimely death. Sources disclosed that the garlic that fell into the well had made it impossible to use the water for religious purpose, hence the woman had to direct her children to evacuate the contaminated well water.
