You Are a Swan By Thomas C. Corley on Jan 10, 2017   In Hans Christian Anderersen’s classic The Ugly Duckling,  a swan is born into a family of ducks. He is perceived by the other ducks on the farm as an ugly duckling. They tease and belittle the ugly duckling relentlessly. Wherever he goes on the farm, the ugly duckling encounters other animals who shun him for the same reason. Because he is made to feel like he does not fit in, he runs away from the farm. While sitting alongside another pond, he encounters a group of elegant white birds. The ugly duckling sees how beautiful they are and aspires to one day be as beautiful as them. Messi's statue vandalised in Buenos Aires As the popular saying goes, a prophet is not without honour except in his own land. That is the situation Messi has found himself in. For years he has been the face of the Argentine national team, the heir to the immortal Maradona but some believe he has let them down. There are many Argentines who believe he is more committed to Barcelona than he is to the national team and it may be such characters who are responsible for the latest act of vandalism on the player's person.  Just hours before Ronaldo was confirmed as the world's best player, the occasion was foreshadowed by a curious incident in his eternal rival's homeland. Vandals in Buenos Aires set upon a statue of Lionel Messi and cut it in two removing the the head, arms and torso.  The sculpture was erected in June last year after Messi retired from international football following his Copa America heartbreak. He later rescinded his decision

Credit China Stringer Network, via Reuters HONG KONG — China sent its sole aircraft carrier into the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday morning, Taiwan officials said, a defiant move that signals China’s growing naval strength and may foreshadow an early foreign policy challenge for President-elect Donald J. Trump when he takes office in nine days. Pastors reject new religion law on tenure   — 9th January 2017 By Henry Umahi Following the appointment of a new National Overseer for the Redeemed Christian Church of God, in compliance with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) law, which specifically limited the tenure of general overseers of churches to 20 years or 70 years of age, more pastors are kicking against the new directive on tenure of church’s leaders. Apostle Psalm Okpe, general overseer, Fresh Oil Ministry, Lagos said: “If it is true that there is a law restricting the tenure of church leaders to 20 years, then, it is one of the most childish laws I’ve ever seen since I was born. The reason is, what if the general overseer started ministry at 70? The call of God and the law of the land are not the same. The call of God is a personal experience and encounter.” He stated that there is freedom of worsh

Article: Warrior Territory

Warrior Territory We all experience it. It happens when you’re studying, working, exercising or engaged in some activity that is sapping you of your energy. You’re tired and feel like stopping. We all hit a wall at some point when we are engaged in activities that help move us forward in life. We know deep down that pushing on is the right thing to do, but, too often, we give in to the temptation of stopping. Last week I was working on a new book. I was starting hour number two. My energy levels must have dropped and I leaned back in my chair contemplating an end to what had been a painful hour of writing. Then I said to myself, as I often do when I feel like stopping, “Warrior Territory”.  I kept writing for another hour. On another day, I set a goal of running 80 minutes. "Some saw it as a joke and signed because it was fun, some stood for normalization of US-Russia ties, and some signed because they don't like the name of Godless Street," Bizyukin said. The town Ryazan is about 125 miles southeast of Moscow on the Oka River and has a population of 500,000. Its major industries are electronics and oil refining. Bizyukin says he feels the US is often unfairly portrayed as a threat to Russia but that the people in Ryazan and elsewhere have a much more positive attitude.

College basketball Power Rankings, Jan. 5: Villanova still No. 1 despite loss Jalen Brunson ’s development keeps Villanova atop our rankings … for now. (Getty Images) Welcome to the first, and certainly not the last, edition of The Dagger’s weekly college basketball power rankings. With conference play now in full swing, we’ll be assessing the top of the sport’s food chain every Thursday until the NCAA tournament. I’ll ramble for a bit, then order the nation’s top teams 1 through 20, with explanations for each. Our first opening ramble will serve to set the parameters for these rankings, and attempt to explain the thinking behind them. Power rankings aren’t based on merit — that’s the first thing to understand. Well, they are, but not win/loss merit. And not even win/loss adjusted for strength of competition merit. They’re based on today and tomorrow. If you tell me today that I have to pick a team to go out on a basketball floor somewhere across America and
